CWARC is ready to assist your community to be ready in the event that our more familiar ways of communicating break down. There is so much of Emergency Communication that extends outside of the Ham Radio community. There are good options with GMRS radio and satellite texting services. To learn how our club knowledge base can help, contact us or show up at a meeting.
in 2026, we explored the emergency communication theme through field exercises and training. While we cannot teach you how to do it on a web page, we would like to present some fundamental concepts that you can adapt to your specific situation:
Rule #1: Have a radio!
Rule #2: Use your radio. If you don't practice, too many things can go wrong when.
Rule #3: Be reliable. Live sustainably and keep yourself and your equipment in good shape so you can be ready when you are needed the most.
Before an emergency find out:
Who needs to know what you know?
Who knows what you need to know?
Who doesn't need to talk to you?
These ideas can all be summed up in the idea of community. Get to know the people around you and what their needs and resources are so you can connect people as needed in an emergency.
