More Details
Radio operators are to relay runner information, such as drop outs, medical needs. Not all site are easily accessible but we fill in as best we can all site captains have radios. We operate on a UHF repeater, something we are trying out this year. We also use VHF frequencies, some are HAM, others are owned by the race folks. Â
To give you some background, the search and rescue group used to handle the whole race communications. 2 years ago they decided they weren't going to do it anymore, so we HAMs stepped in and took it over.  Most of us are past the age of wanting to hike in, so we operate the relay stations and as many aid stations as possible. A few of the stations that need attention are the finish line. This station has a hookup for a trailer, Dryfork Aid station, Jaws Aid station, Lower Sheep could use someone else who can walk in. We are going to have a burger feed at Steamboat after the race provided by NEWARA. This is a fun time for us to get together. The race folks make a donation to the club and we split it with the other clubs participating. We will have a meeting in May in Gillette with ZOOM capability, so you can join in from where you are at. Radios? Dual band handhelds would be prefered but we will work with what you have. Some stations use mobiles and we have some extras of those. Please contact me if you have other questions.
